Pumdragir possess several beneficial traits from their mixed ancestry: They are extremely intelligent, have supreme eyesight and are excellent fliers. They are very social creatures and live in groups - called gatherings - that can be as small as 5 'gir and as large as 30. Pumdragir of both genders have individual tasks as scouts, hunters, legacists, caretakers of young and old and sometimes minor mages in their gathering, but all 'gir will fight to defend their area when it is threatened.

A Pumdragir's best weapon is its vines which it can control and extend at will. It uses them to strangle prey and to limit the movements of a foe in battle. As the vines are extensions of the 'gir's body, tugging at them will cause discomfort and damaging them causes pain. Fortunately a 'gir's vines always grow back, no matter how damaged they are.

Unlike their dragon ancestors, the vocal cords of 'gir are unsuitable for producing any other sound than that of their own language. However with tutoring they can learn to understand any spoken language and can become fluent in writing it. 'Gir have their own written language and alphabet and they write with their claws upon any surface they can find, whether it be wooden pieces, especially prepared slates or even wax tablets if they can trade for them.

Love among the 'gir is fickle, able to change its course and, indeed, preference within the year, month or even weeks after a percieved mate has been found. While this is common behavior among the species, mating for life is not, as more often than not the 'gir remain together only long enough to raise kits. At other times, their fondness for one another could be less.. or more.

Pumdragir pairings raise their young with the help of all of their gathering and it is not uncommon that a pairing with many eggs will give some to kit-less pairings as to relieve the strain on the individual.  'Gir kits grow to maturity in a year and tend to stay in the gathering they were raised.

Gir rarely ever leave their gatherings for a new one, but if they do it is often to follow a current mate, explore new territories or has been a debated choice to split up the gathering. Each member of a gathering is valued highly and it is difficult, if not impossible, for a 'gir in a gathering to have been removed by force. Gatherings will send out search groups and request the aid of others to find a member who has been lost without notice.

It is rare but not unusual for a 'gir to wield magic and some breeds produce more magic-wielders than others. The most common mages possess wind- or earth-magic.
